Karolina Born-Tschümperlin - Naramata Art
"In my family, the interest in art dates back to my grandfather, who passionately collected 20th century contemporary art. His passion was passed on to my parents and already as a small child, I found myself hauled around to galleries and museums that were showing important exhibits all over Europe. My mother took me into the Centre Pompidou, the Louvre and the Jeu de Paume in Paris when I was just about 15 years old and educated me about the artists and their various histories, often in relationship to historical events.
When I was working on my translator degree in Paris, I spent a short period studying art history at the Université de la Sorbonne, but I have never had any formal art training. Painting just kind of appeared one day.
I find my inspiration mostly in nature and the natural beauty of landscape, but I can also get quite excited about 20st Century expressionism and "all things pop art".
